Call us at 204-925-1100 or email us at intake@takingcharge.org to start Taking Charge! of your life. You will meet with one of our caring career counsellors who will work with you to create a schedule that suits you and your needs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Taking Charge!, participants must be receiving Employment and income Assistance (EIA) and be:

Single parents and women who want to achieve self-sufficient and take charge of their lives, or women looking to obtain their mature grade 12 and pursue employment or higher education.

Assessment Meeting

Before starting programming, participants will meet with a career counsellor to undergo a brief assessment.

Participants will work closely with a Career Counselor to identify skills, interests, and abilities and be assisted in course selection

Getting Started

Personal Development

You’re about to embark on an exciting journey of self-discovery! You’ll focus on self-awareness, explore mindfulness practices, and learn how to embrace change. You’ll uncover your strengths, explore the growth mindset, and discover the power of stepping out of your comfort zone. We’ll also examine topics like diversity, perspective-taking, and implicit biases, helping you increase your awareness and rediscover your true potential. Additionally, you will be able to engage in new experiences by choosing to volunteer within the community and participate in museum and art gallery tours.

Career Exploration

In our Post-Secondary 101 class, you will get comfortable with the language of trades and university education, so say goodbye to any worries about academic jargon! You will also be able to join tours of different Post-Secondary Institutions in Winnipeg and have the opportunity to speak with instructors in your field of interest. You will also learn about funding opportunities, program costs, and have ongoing support from our staff while you plan your education and financial future.

Finally, you will be able to boost your job application skills in our resume-writing and professional communication workshops. You’ll learn how to understand job postings and become more comfortable with using professional language in both your written and oral communication. With hands-on experience, you will craft and eye-catching resume and practice interview techniques to assist you to land that dream job!

Academic Preparation

Uncover your unique learning style and discover how to make the most of your skills in the classroom! You’ll improve your math and English skills in a friendly and accommodating setting while you prepare for your transition into full-time classes at the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre

Computer Skills

If you’ve always wanted to learn the basics of Microsoft Office, or elevate the skills you already have, we’ve got you covered! We offer both Introductory and Advanced courses in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. We also provide classes on internet safety so participants can help keep themselves and thier loved ones aware of possible dangers online
