Taking Charge! is a certified Adult Learning Centre. We work in partnership with the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre to assess your current education level and get you started on the learning journey decided upon by you and our academic assessment team. Whether it is finishing up high school credits or getting ready for College or University, we can put together a plan that works for you.
Programs Offered
Computer Training
Taking Charge! Participants have the opportunity to upgrade their computer skills and become more proficient in their technological abilities. Some of these courses include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) in varying levels of advancement, along with an introduction to the internet course. Taking Charge! also introduces participants to a Career Cruising portal, an internet and career matching system with in-depth occupational profiles. This portal includes multimedia career interviews, a database of college and university apprenticeship programs, and a career portfolio.
Taking Charge! of Academics
Taking Charge! is a certified Adult Learning Centre and delivers the Taking Charge! of Academics program in partnership with the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre located within the Winnipeg School Division. All courses follow the Province of Manitoba curriculum and are adapted for adult learners by the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre. Taking Charge! of Academics is the academic upgrading program for participants who want to return to school to obtain a Mature Grade 12 Diploma or those who need to upgrade or qualify for post-secondary programs. The classes are typically small, with about 10-15 students per class.
Participants of the program may take the following courses:
- Introduction to Transactional English 30S Prep
- English 20F
- Essential Math 30S Prep
- Essential Math 30S
- Family Studies 40S
- Physical Education 40S
The program is delivered in four terms
Winnipeg Adult Education Centre
Winnipeg Adult Education Centre (WAEC) is an Adult Learning Centre that offers English, Science, Humanities, Art, Math, Physical Education and Information and Communication Technology at the grade 10-12 level. They also offer EAL programming.
The program is delivered with continuous intake. Some students that have already graduated will upgrade their academics at WAEC to meet college requirements. Students transferring from the Taking Charge! of Academics program have the chance to be exposed to larger classes at WAEC and prepare for post-secondary education.
While Taking Charge! students are at WAEC they are still supported by the team at Taking Charge! and have access to Taking Care! for their children. The students will work with their Career Counselors to complete their post-secondary funding proposals, select a post-secondary program and complete registration.
